How young people reach us

Referral pathways for Youth Unity mentoring

We receive referrals from a range of statutory and community-based organisations that identify young people in need of support — ensuring those at risk or facing challenges receive tailored mentoring and intervention at the right time.

Youth Offending Teams (YOTs)

Youth justice services refer young people involved in, or at risk of, offending — often linked to diversionary programmes to prevent reoffending.

Policing & Community Safety

Police and Safer Schools Officers refer young people identified through anti-social behaviour, criminal activity or gang affiliation, as part of preventative work.

Schools & Alternative Provision

Schools refer students struggling with behaviour, attendance, peer relationships or safeguarding. Alternative provisions refer those excluded or disengaged.

Local Authority & Council

Early help teams refer young people facing family breakdown, safeguarding risks or social care involvement — including children in care or at risk of exploitation.

Statutory & Third Sector

Referrals from social services, CAMHS and safeguarding teams, plus partnered charities and youth-focused organisations.

While most referrals come from professional agencies, we understand that parents are often the first to recognise when their child needs support. In certain cases we work directly with families to offer guidance, mentorship and early intervention, on a careful case-by-case assessment. Our approach recognises that vulnerability does not end at 18 — we continue to support young adults through transitional safeguarding that bridges the gap between children's and adult services.
