Pathways into Racing: British Racing School Partnership (Ages 16–24)

Over the past two years, Youth Unity CIC has been working in partnership with the British Racing School to provide young people with direct pathways into careers within the horse racing and stud farm industries. Through a series of structured taster weeks, young people are introduced to the realities of working with horses, the range of roles available across the sector, and the training routes that can lead to long-term employment.

The taster weeks are designed to give young people hands-on experience, build confidence, and help them make informed decisions about whether a career in the racing industry is right for them. For those who wish to progress, the programme offers a clear next step: access to a fully funded 18-week training programme, with guaranteed employment opportunities at the end. These opportunities are not limited to racing yards, but also include roles across stud farms and wider equine care, reflecting the broad range of careers available within the industry.

This project is dedicated to increasing diversity and inclusion within horse racing, an industry where many young people would not traditionally see themselves represented. In collaboration with the British Racing School, and with the generous support of The Gerald Leigh Foundation, we are able to offer fully funded opportunities that remove financial barriers and open doors to training, qualifications, and sustainable employment.
