Helping Students Thrive at Brittons Academy
Over eight weeks, the #BeWell Programme supported a small group of students at Brittons Academy through targeted one-to-one mental health sessions. Working with five students, the programme focused on building emotional wellbeing, confidence, and resilience in a supportive and approachable way.
Students were supported with challenges such as anxiety, low mood, academic pressure, and managing emotions, as well as the impact that home life can have on school experience. For many, these pressures had affected motivation, confidence, and engagement in learning. #BeWell offered a space where students felt listened to, understood, and supported.
Delivered by an external practitioner, sessions took place in a calm, non-judgemental environment, allowing students to speak openly without fear of getting into trouble or being judged. Through the programme, students developed greater emotional awareness, a better understanding of mental health, and practical coping strategies to help manage stress and emotional challenges.
The impact was clear. Several students made strong progress, with three no longer needing ongoing support by the end of the programme. Others continue to benefit from further input, highlighting both the effectiveness of early intervention and the importance of having support available when it’s needed.
Overall, delivery at Brittons Academy shows how #BeWell YEP helps young people feel more confident, emotionally aware, and supported, contributing positively to wellbeing and engagement in school life. Expanding the programme would allow even more students to benefit from consistent, preventative mental health support.
